Nile’s Jewel, an intersection of painting and music, both born from Mercy’s profound
exploration of identity, heritage, and expression.
Vini Mercy’s work is a celebration of her roots and a deep dive into the ideas that shape her
perception of life. Through her art, she brings to light the physical and cultural narratives of
Northern Uganda, particularly, the people who are often characterized by their distinctively
deep dark skin complexion.
Her use of black figures is not just a reflection of physicality but an assertion of presence,
identity, and pride. With each stroke, she pays homage to the Madi, her tribe—a community
with rich traditions and untapped stories that rarely take center stage. Vini’s work serves as
a powerful medium to celebrate the silent prowess of her people, illuminating the beauty
and resilience that lies within this often-overlooked ethnic group.
