Wamala is a Ugandan visual artist, curator, and co-founder of Vodo Arts Society and Lab. His powerful portraits celebrate everyday resilience, focusing on breadwinners and caregivers—those whose quiet sacrifices embody humanity’s deepest truths. Working primarily in oils and mixed media, Wamala masterfully balances raw emotion with technical precision, creating works that feel both intimate and universal. His artistic practice extends beyond the studio through thoughtful curation, fostering dialogues around contemporary African narratives.
A graduate of Michelangelo College of Art and Kyambogo University, Wamala’s influence spans exhibitions from Kampala to Kigali to Australia, including notable shows at AfriArt Gallery and Sanaa Fest Australia. As both artist and cultural organizer, he bridges creative worlds—having designed stages for Bayimba Festival, collaborated with brands like MTN and UNESCO, and spearheaded community projects addressing climate change and heritage preservation. Through Vodo Arts, exhibitions, and his own evocative paintings, Wamala continues to highlight the extraordinary dignity of ordinary lives.
