Mpungu Tony

Mpungu Tony is a multidisciplinary Ugandan artist whose practice spans illustration, painting, sculpture, concept art, character design, and storytelling. Based in Kampala, he draws inspiration from everyday life, African folklore, and the dynamic cultural landscape around him. With a diploma in painting and sculpture and a certificate in character development, Tony combines technical skill with imaginative world-building. His work is marked by expressive characters, rich textures, and an evolving visual language that reflects both tradition and innovation. Whether he’s sculpting with clay or sketching digitally, Tony brings the same intentionality and curiosity to every medium he explores.

In recent years, Tony has focused his energy on comic book creation—writing and illustrating original narratives that reimagine African experiences with boldness and depth. He sees comics not just as entertainment, but as a powerful tool for education, cultural preservation, and self-expression. As he builds his growing portfolio, Tony aims to become one of Uganda’s most influential comic book artists, championing authentic African voices and encouraging a new generation of creatives to tell their own stories. His mission is rooted in a belief that the stories we tell shape how we see ourselves—and he’s determined to tell ones that matter.
