Nantume Violet

Nantume Violet is a curator, writer, and initiator of UNDER GROUND, an independent art space in Kampala. With over a decade of experience in cultural production and curation across Eastern, Western, and Southern Africa, Nantume’s notable curatorial projects include Silent Invasions at Amasaka Gallery (Uganda), We Will Now Go to Kpaaza at Iwalewahaus Bayreuth, and That Those Beings Be Not Being in Berlin. Her exhibitions span prestigious venues like Johannesburg Art Gallery, Goethe-Institut Nairobi, and various locations in Kampala.

She was a speaker at the second Okwui Enwezor Distinguished Lecture in Germany and contributes writings to Artforum (New York) and Contemporary And (Berlin). Nantume holds a BA from Makerere University, an MFA from HfBK Hamburg, and is pursuing her PhD at Ruhr University Bochum, splitting her time between Uganda and Germany. She is also a partner curator at Vodo Arts Society and Lab.
